Miss Earth South Africa – Speaking Out

As a young woman with a passion for environmentalism, I was thrilled at the opportunity to compete in Miss Earth South Africa. I was determined to use my platform to promote sustainable living and environmental conservation. However, my experience with the organization left me feeling disillusioned and disheartened.

I knew that the competition was going to be tough, so I decided to go all-in and pursue it full-time. I quit three jobs to focus on the competition and spent countless hours working on projects to showcase my dedication to environmental causes. The Miss Earth South Africa website states that projects play a significant role in determining the finalists, and I took this to heart. I poured my heart and soul into 17 different projects, ranging from beach cleanups to fundraising for environmental causes.

Despite my hard work, I was ultimately rejected by the organization. The reasons they gave me were vague and unsatisfactory, leaving me with more questions than answers. The entire experience left me feeling as though the projects were simply a formality, rather than a genuine indication of one’s commitment to environmentalism.

Sadly, my experience with Miss Earth South Africa is not unique. There have been numerous reports of fraudulent activities by the organization, including allegations of vote-buying and favoritism towards contestants with connections to the organization. In 2018, a former Miss Earth South Africa finalist spoke out about the corrupt practices within the organization, citing instances of bullying and exploitation.

It is disheartening to see an organization that claims to promote environmentalism engaging in such unethical practices. As consumers and supporters of environmental causes, we must hold these organizations accountable for their actions. We must demand transparency and fairness in all aspects of the competition, from the selection of finalists to the distribution of prizes.

In conclusion, my experience with Miss Earth South Africa was a painful one. I poured my heart and soul into the competition, only to be rejected without a clear explanation. However, I refuse to let this setback deter me from my passion for environmentalism. I will continue to work towards promoting sustainable living and environmental conservation, and I hope that others will join me in holding organizations like Miss Earth South Africa accountable for their actions.
